Songs in English for children

Songs in English for children are an essential element for learning the language at an early age. Thanks to the rhythm and catchy melody of these songs, children acquire language in a natural and fun way.

Music in the classroom as a habit in early childhood education

Children's songs are something that is present on a regular basis in our daily lives. Therefore, in the case of children, it is strange not to hear any adult sing a song to them. It is a way of connecting with the child, as well as of transmitting knowledge to him. In the case of English, it is a fundamental tool in the classroom. From the moments that are repeated every day, such as the assembly or the farewell, to the support of the work on a specific topic. In the sessions of Great Little People they are a very present element. We use both our own songs and those that are most popular at these ages.

Benefits of songs in the Acquisition of English at an early age

Ease of learning

Who doesn't remember the songs they sang as a child? Children's songs have simple phrases to learn and have a musicality that is very easy to remember. A clear example of this is “If you're happy and you know it”.

Boosts attention and memory

As we have already mentioned, its structure is simple. This is appealing to the little ones because they are able to understand the letter easily. Many of them have choruses or parts that they repeat and help you to memorize concepts quickly, as is the case of the song “Five Little Monkeys”.

It helps to acquire routines

At Great Little People we regularly use some songs for those moments that are repeated in each class. In this way, children learn how the sessions unfold and are able to anticipate what will happen next.

Contributes to their motor development

The vast majority of them are accompanied by a dance or a set of gestures. This, in addition to being a lot of fun for them, helps them to coordinate and perfect their body movements. There are songs that we work on gross motor skills, like this well-known song “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes”, and others in which fine motor skills are more present, such as “One Little Finger”.

Improves phoneme acquisition

Our phonetic method has a specific song for each phoneme. This helps the child to perceive the correct pronunciation in isolation and to relate it to the words that carry that sound.

They learn by playing

Songs in English are a playful tool when it comes to acquiring language. Therefore, they have some steps or movements that motivate the child to participate and enjoy doing so.

They help to express themselves and overcome shyness

It motivates them to relate to others and therefore to gain confidence when it comes to communicating in English. Finally, we encourage you to introduce songs in English to your daily life and observe how they learn language in a playful way.
